A Utah man has been charged in the deaths of his parents earlier this month.

Robert John Liddiard, 51, was charged Tuesday with two counts of aggravated murder, a charge that could carry the possibility of the death penalty.

Charges state the police were called to the Holladay home of Robert, 85, and Diane, 78, Liddiard on Nov. 4 after their daughter called authorities asking police to check on her parents.

At about 5:30 p.m. that evening, she had called her parents at home after they did not answer their cell phones. Her brother answered, charges state, and told her that he had killed their parents.

Police later found the couple dead inside a bedroom in the home, located near 4700 S. Wander Lane. Three bloody knives were found nearby.

The son was arrested hours later at a home in Millcreek, and remains in the Salt Lake County jail without the opportunity to post bail.

Police have not offered any type of motive, though officials have said the man suffers from mental health issues. No court date was immediately scheduled.
