Police are looking for a man they say hung out in a Taylorsville house he was burglarizing for hours before stealing a sports-utility vehicle when a resident arrived home.
The man got into the home by reaching up through a doggy door and unlocking a deadbolt about 4:30 p.m. Friday, said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke. Surveillance video shows the man spent about two hours meandering through the house looking for things to steal, going through the family’s fridge and changing into clothes he found in the house.
The man picked up spare keys he found while wandering through the home, Lohrke said. When one of the residents arrived home, the man jumped from a second-story window and stole a green 2004 Honda Element with Utah license plate Z454US from the carport or garage.
The suspect is described as a white man with tattoos on his neck and arms. He appears to have a medium build, stand about 5 feet 9 inches and weigh about 175 pounds.
Anyone with information about the man or the vehicle is asked to call Unified police at 801-743-7000.
