Elaine Dalton, chairwoman of the Utah Valley University Board of Trustees, and Steven Lund, a member of the Utah Board of Regents, will lead the search for a new Utah Valley University president.

The Utah System of Higher Education announced the creation of 24-member search committee on Monday, as well as the date for two public meetings that will precede a formal job posting for the top administrative post at UVU.

“We recognize the importance of UVU to the surrounding communities and to the state as a whole, and we took the utmost care in selecting this committee to ensure each member has a strong connection to UVU and is dedicated to making sure the university’s future is bright,” Board of Regents Chairman Daniel Campbell said in a prepared statement.

UVU President Matthew Holland announced last week that he intends to step down in June to serve as a mission president for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The public is invited to participate in two meetings on Nov. 28, which will be held in UVU’s Science Building Auditorium at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

In addition to Dalton — former president of the LDS Church’s Young Women organization — and Lund, the search committee will include UVU Trustees Duff Thompson and Jack Sunderledge, as well as Regents Nina Barnes, Wilford Clyde and Campbell.

Representing students on the search committee will be UVU student body president Rob Smith. Faculty representatives include student services Vice President Kyle Reyes, Deans Forrest Williams and Steve Clark, department heads Janet Colvin and Bryan Waite, professors Olga Kopp and Paige Gardner, Honors Program director Kate McPherson, Faculty Senate President Craig Thulin and staff association president Shalece Nuttall.

Community members on the search committee include Blue Diamond Capital co-founder Debbie Bingham, Intermountain Healthcare associate chief operating officer Steve Smoot, Utah Community Credit Union president Jeff Sermon, Banyan president Carine Clark, Culinary Crafts CEO Mary Crafts Homer and Woodbury Corporation chairman Rick Woodbury.
