Police have located a 15-year-old boy with autism who went missing Friday morning from his home in Sandy.

Andrew Cook was located Saturday evening, according to a tweet from the Sandy Police Department. He was safe and in good health, the tweet said.

According to an SPD news release, police received a tip that Cook had been seen in Draper. About 7:45 p.m., officers found the teen at a home there.

Sgt. Jason Nielsen said the occupants knew Cook, but they didn’t know he had been reported missing. The nature of their relationship was not immediately clear, Nielsen said.

Cook had gone missing about 10 a.m. Friday. The last indication of his whereabouts had been captured on surveillance footage from the Pepperwood gated community, near 10900 S. 2000 East, which showed Cook leaving the neighborhood, Nielsen said in a news release. Footage didn’t show him returning.

Cook had left home before but always returned or was found hiding near home.

Police began searching for him about 9 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, a volunteer search party joined the effort but disbanded about 5 p.m. as it got dark, Nielsen said.

Ten officers continued the search Saturday, with detectives following up on tips all day, including the one that led to his discovery.
