A 28-year-old Davis County resident was being held Monday without bail after he allegedly shot to death a man who had cut him with a razor blade.
Robin William Lundin was arrested in connection with the Sunday morning shooting of 30-year-old Colby Scott Barney and booked into jail on suspicion of murder, a news release from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office says.
The shooting occurred in a West Point residence, where officers responded to a call at 1:36 a.m. from someone reporting that a man had been shot in the chest in the basement of the residence, an affidavit filed by a Davis County sheriff’s officer says.
Paramedics attempted life-saving measures but Barney, who had been shot in the chest, was pronounced dead at the scene, the affidavit says.
The caller told investigators Lundin was the shooter and had left the scene, according to the affidavit. The affidavit says that while the first officer on site was interviewing a witness, Lundin returned and was arrested.
Investigators believe Barney — who lived in the Salt Lake City area — had been invited to the West Point home, near 400 North and 3300.
According to a witness, Lundin and Barney got into an altercation and Lundin suffered lacerations to his face from a razor blade held by Barney. The fight ended with Barney backed into the corner of the kitchen and “surrendering” with his hands out and the razor blade in his pocket, the affidavit says.
Lundin allegedly retrieved a 9mm firearm from his bedroom and returned to the kitchen, where he fired twice at Barney, causing fatal injuries. One of the rounds injured the hand of one witness, the affidavit says.
A 1-year-old child was inside the home at the time of the shooting, the affidavit says.
Lundin, who got 28 stitches later, allegedly admitted to drinking heavily during the incident.
Court records show Lundin pleaded guilty in Box Elder Justice Court in 2012 to a class C misdemeanor count of intoxication and was sentenced to two days in jail and fined $190.
In 2011, he pleaded guilty in Roy Justice Court to driving under the influence, a class B misdemeanor, and drinking alcohol in a vehicle, a class C misdemeanor. Lundin was sentenced in that case to 48 hours of community service and fined $1,505.
Barney was charged in 2012 in 2nd District Court with aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony, and commission of domestic violence in the presence of a child, a class B misdemeanor. He later pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 1 to 15 years in prison.
